From Retirement Panic to HGTV Star & Retiring 20 Years Early

Monica Mayorga is a successful real estate investor since 2011 investing in multiple markets for profit by implementing strategies such as re-purposed dwellings, long flips, the BRRRR method (buy, rehab, rent, refinance and repeat), joint venture partnerships and student rentals.

Guest: Monica Mayorga, Real Estate Investor & Retirement Specialist Monica Mayorga is a successful real estate investor since 2011 investing in multiple markets for profit by implementing strategies such as re-purposed dwellings, long flips, the BRRRR method (buy, rehab, rent, refinance and repeat), joint venture partnerships and student rentals.

Monica was previously employed with an international pharmaceutical company as a Pension and Benefits Specialist. When a financial tool was introduced to help the staff determine if their retirement plans were on track, Monica decided to explore it first before introducing it to staff. According to the financial calculator, Monica and husband Raphael were not saving enough to retire the way they wanted. In fact, she would have to continue working part-time during their retirement years.

The terrifying news caused Monica to hit what she calls “her panic button”. She immediately contacted her husband and sold him on the idea to create wealth through real estate investing. Although her husband was on board, he was skeptical and even added a challenge that he wanted their first investment to be a small multi-family property, a triplex.

Together they found a rundown triplex in Toronto in an upcoming neighbourhood that was underperforming. Funds were tight and the entire building needed renovations. That’s when Monica wrote to Scott McGillivray, host of HGTV Income Property, asking for help on their first project. Low and behold help was graciously provided, not only with renovations but also with knowledge on what it takes to be a great landlord and the business of real estate investing.

Monica’s first experience gave her the tools to transition from working countless hours in a corporate job to retiring 20 years earlier and becoming a Retirement Specialist travelling the world. You will learn about: – Investment strategy tips and refinancing – Project cost, numbers and processes – Scaling up your business – Private financing

Achieving Goals & Success by Living Below Your Means

After graduating as an Occupational Therapist, Evelyn Lamarsh began researching all the different ways to make money and settled on real estate. 2 years later, at age 26, she bought her first two rental properties and then bought a house for herself.

Guest: Evelyn Lamarsh, Real Estate Investor

After graduating as an Occupational Therapist, Evelyn Lamarsh began researching all the different ways to make money and settled on real estate. 2 years later, at age 26, she bought her first two rental properties and then bought a house for herself.

She didn’t get to live there very long though, because her neighbour, Mike, fell in love with the Girl Next Door and they were married in no time!  She made the big move next door and her house became another rental.

Fast forward a few years with a steady focus of adding one property at a time in their market of Hamilton they now have 10 properties, all buy and holds. 5 are student rentals and 5 are single-family homes, one of which they have recently switched to an Air BnB.

Eveyln’s love of her vocation means she will return to her community mental health support role in the fall from maternity leave, not from a need for the paycheque but because she loves helping others. However, their success has meant Mike has been able to retire, at the age of 30, from the tough, dirty life as an auto mechanic and switch those trade skills repairing or upgrading almost everything that their properties need.

Evelyn and Mike are at the moment taking a break from collecting homes and make more time for cycling, canoeing and chilling in their boat as well as parents to two very young children. You will learn about: – How remaining focused help you hit your goals – Why taking an investing break is possible and can make sense – Making the right money choices – Using property cash flow to treat yourself, like getting a 32-foot boat! – Tips for starter investors in their mid-20’s

Take Action and Specialize to Get the Life You Want

Mat Piche is a real estate investor specializing in the Kitchener-Waterloo region and through his regular eating of a whole food plant-based diet has also become known as  “The Fruitful Investor” with which he has built his brand.
Guest: Mat Piche, Real Estate Investor and Realtor Mat Piche is a real estate investor specializing in the Kitchener-Waterloo region and through his regular eating of a whole food plant-based diet has also become known as  “The Fruitful Investor” with which he has built his brand. Coming from a long line of carpenters, Mat has always had an interest in building and renovations- you could even say it is in his ‘blood.’ Combine this with his passion for real estate investing and his desire to achieve financial freedom for both himself and his clients and together you have one motivated real estate agent! As a child, Mat’s family struggled financially like many others and early on, he knew that there was more to life than just ‘living to get by.’ After graduating from high school, he began his carpentry apprenticeship with a small renovations company, working alongside two senior employees who soon became his mentors. With help from his mentors, Mat soon became a skilled carpenter in residential renovations. Nearing the end of his apprenticeship, Mat began to question his future as a company-employed carpenter. While he loved the work, he found himself caught up in the never-ending ‘rat-race’ they call life-. As a 20-year-old, this is something he had never envisioned for himself and he delved into a journey of self-reflection and analysis. While for some this type of self-reflection comes later in life, for Mat this type-A mentality was nothing new. Mat took control of his life for the first time and bought his first investment property on his 22nd birthday. This purchase marked a major turning point in his life, giving him the confidence he needed to quit his job and start his own renovation company strictly for other investors. Mat’s innovative renovation methods for saving client’s money set him apart from his competitors and earned him the respect of many local investors, allowing him to build strong relationships and connections with them. Going from broke carpenter at 20 years old to now owning 23 properties by the age of 30, his own portfolio did mostly comprise of single family homes but more recently he has been expanding into multiplex units, student housing and flips. Scaling his business accelerated by working with joint venture partners, all of whom he has attracted through his YouTube channel and social media activity. Mat is now focused on helping more people also create freedom in their lives by owning quality investment properties by specializing and educates and helps them through his podcast, videos, coaching and The Fruitful Investing Academy. His real estate investing life has enabled him to have the freedom to follow his passion for travelling and eating fruit around the world.
